Description
Hydroxyethyl β-Cyclodextrin is a chemically modified cyclodextrin derivative used in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and biomedical formulations to improve the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble active ingredients. It is produced by hydroxyethyl substitution of β-cyclodextrin, which enhances aqueous solubility while preserving the characteristic inclusion complex–forming capability of the cyclodextrin cavity.
Hydroxyethyl β-Cyclodextrin appears as a white to off-white amorphous powder that is freely soluble in water, forming clear solutions. Its modified structure reduces crystallinity and improves dissolution behavior compared to native β-cyclodextrin, making it suitable for liquid and solid dosage forms.
In pharmaceutical and research applications, Hydroxyethyl β-Cyclodextrin is used in:
- Solubility enhancement of poor water-soluble drug substances
- Stabilization of active labile ingredients against hydrolysis or oxidation
- Oral, parenteral, ophthalmic, and nasal drug delivery systems
- Controlled-release and complexation-based formulation strategies
- Taste masking and odor masking applications
- Research involving host–guest chemistry and drug–cyclodextrin interactions
β-Cyclodextrin functions by forming non-covalent inclusion complexes with hydrophobic molecules, encapsulating them within its hydrophobic cavity while maintaining an overall hydrophilic exterior. This mechanism improves apparent solubility, dissolution rate, and formulation stability without chemical modification of the active ingredient.
CarboMer supplies Hydroxyethyl β-Cyclodextrin with degree of substitution, molecular integrity, purity, moisture content, and microbial quality. The material is suitable for regulated pharmaceutical development, advanced formulation work, and biomedical research.
The material is packaged in sealed, moisture-resistant, tamper-evident containers. Available in laboratory and pilot-scale quantities. Documentation includes Certificate of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and full traceability.
Each batch is tested for identity (IR), degree of substitution, solubility, loss of drying, and microbial limits. Technical support is available to assist with complexation studies, formulation optimization, and application development.
As with all CarboMer supplied cyclodextrin derivatives, Hydroxyethyl β-Cyclodextrin is supported by dependable global supply, rigorous quality control, and expert technical guidance to ensure consistent and reliable performance across pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.
