Description
S-(-)-Atenolol
S-(−)-Atenolol is the inactive stereoisomer of the β1-selective adrenergic receptor blocker Atenolol. While the racemic form (R,S-Atenolol) is used in most clinical applications, the isolated S-(−) enantiomer has minimal β-blocking activity and is primarily used in chiral resolution studies, reference standards, and enantioselective formulation research. S-(−)-Atenolol
- Is the enantiomerically pure, pharmacologically inactive isomer of Atenolol
- Supports chiral separation, analytical method development, and stereochemical evaluation
- Is suitable for reference use in enantiomeric purity assays and stereoselective pharmacokinetic studies
In contrast to the R-(+)-Atenolol enantiomer which provides the desired β1-adrenergic blocking activity, S-(−)-Atenolol demonstrates negligible clinical efficacy. However, its availability in isolated form is essential for:
- Analytical method validation for chiral separation and enantiomeric excess (ee) analysis
- Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic research assessing enantiomer-specific activity or metabolism
- Process development of chiral switch formulations aiming to eliminate inactive or less desirable enantiomers
- Quality control of racemic Atenolol batches to ensure consistent stereochemical ratios
CarboMer provides S-(−)-Atenolol with high chiral purity (typically ≥99%) and detailed enantiomeric excess reporting using chiral HPLC or capillary electrophoresis. Though not used therapeutically, this enantiomer is valuable for research and regulatory purposes in pharmaceutical development.
The material is supplied in sealed, light-protected, tamper-evident containers. Available in milligram to multigram quantities for R&D, with custom batch sizes upon request. Minimum order quantities (MOQ), lead times, and full regulatory documentation are available.
Each lot is tested for chemical purity, optical rotation, enantiomeric composition, residual solvents, and identity. All documentation including CoA and SDS is provided with shipment.
As with all CarboMer chiral compounds and APIs, S-(−)-Atenolol is supported by technical and regulatory specialists to ensure your stereoselective research and analytical programs meet scientific and regulatory expectations.
