Poly(vinyl acetate phthalate) NF, also known as PVAP, is a pharmaceutically accepted enteric coating polymer used in oral solid dosage forms to control drug release and protect active ingredients from degradation in the stomach. As a pH-dependent film former, it enables delayed-release and targeted delivery in the intestinal tract while meeting National Formulary (NF) standards for safety and performance. Poly(vinyl acetate phthalate) is a copolymer of vinyl acetate and phthalic acid. It forms smooth, flexible films that are insoluble in acidic environments and dissolve selectively in the higher pH conditions of the small intestine. PVAP is also commonly blended with plasticizers and other polymers to fine-tune film properties.
