Description

Poly(ethylene oxide) NF

Poly(ethylene oxide) NF is a pharmaceutical-grade, high-molecular-weight, nonionic polymer used in a wide range of drug delivery and dosage form applications. As a water-soluble polyether, it is recognized for its ability to form viscous solutions, gels, and film-forming matrices. This polymer meets the standards of the National Formulary (NF) and is widely used in controlled-release tablets, mucoadhesive systems, and hydrophilic matrix platforms. Poly(ethylene oxide) NF

  • Is an NF-grade, water-soluble polymer suitable for oral, topical, and mucosal formulations
  • Enables controlled drug release through matrix swelling and diffusion mechanisms
  • Is biocompatible, low toxicity, and non-immunogenic profile
  • Is ideal for osmotic tablets, buccal films, transdermal systems, and gel-based applications
  • Is manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified conditions
  • Is supplied with complete regulatory documentation including Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and technical data

Poly(ethylene oxide) NF is available in a wide range of molecular weights—from approximately 100,000 to several million Daltons—allowing formulators to adjust viscosity, gel strength, and drug release characteristics. It dissolves in water to form clear, colloidal solutions and is compatible with other polymers, fillers, and active pharmaceutical ingredients.

In pharmaceutical applications, Poly(ethylene oxide) NF is used in:

  • Extended-release oral tablets, particularly in hydrophilic matrix designs
  • Mucoadhesive films for buccal, vaginal, or ocular delivery
  • Viscosity modification and stabilization in gels, creams, and suspensions
  • Bioadhesive and lubrication agents in wound care and medical coatings
  • Protein and peptide stabilization in solution-based dosage forms

Its ability to swell without dissolving rapidly allows it to create diffusion-controlled drug delivery matrices, improving bioavailability and patient compliance in long-acting formulations. It is particularly well suited for combination products and precision drug delivery platforms.

CarboMer supplies Poly(ethylene oxide) NF in multiple grades, tailored by molecular weight and particle size, to suit different drug release profiles and manufacturing techniques. Custom blends and co-processed excipient systems are available upon request.

The material is packaged in sealed, moisture-resistant, tamper-evident containers. Available in R&D, clinical, and commercial volumes. Minimum order quantities (MOQ), lead times, and documentation—including CoA and SDS—are provided with each shipment.

Each batch is tested for identity (IR), molecular weight (GPC), viscosity, loss on drying, microbial limits, and residue on ignition. All shipments include Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and full traceability documentation.

As with all CarboMer pharmaceutical polymers, Poly(ethylene oxide) NF is backed by technical support, regulatory guidance, and global supply capabilities to accelerate your formulation success from development through commercialization.
