Description
Poly(ethylene adipate)
Poly(ethylene adipate) is a biodegradable aliphatic polyester used in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and controlled-release applications for its flexibility, low crystallinity, and enzymatic degradability. Formed through the polycondensation of Ethylene glycol and Adipic acid, this polymer serves as a versatile base for bioresorbable systems and polymer-drug conjugates. Poly(ethylene adipate)
- Is a biodegradable polyester with slow, surface-eroding degradation
- Is used in drug delivery systems, absorbable devices, and polymeric carriers
- Has a low glass transition temperature and good compatibility with hydrophobic APIs
- Can be processed via solvent casting, extrusion, or blending with other polymers
- Is manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified conditions
- Is supplied with complete regulatory documentation including Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and technical data
Poly(ethylene adipate) (PEAd) exhibits favorable thermal and mechanical properties and forms semi-crystalline or amorphous films depending on molecular weight and processing. Its degradation products—ethylene glycol and adipic acid—are biocompatible and eliminated via natural metabolic pathways.
In pharmaceutical and medical product development, Poly(ethylene adipate) is used in:
- Biodegradable microspheres and implants for long-acting drug release
- Copolymer blends with Polylactide, Polyglycolide, or Polycaprolactone for tailored degradation rates
- Coatings and matrices for medical devices and scaffolds
- Tissue engineering applications including soft tissue regeneration platforms
- Solvent-cast drug films and depot injectables with hydrophobic APIs
The polymer’s slow, surface-controlled erosion allows for consistent, extended drug delivery profiles. It is also suitable for custom modification, such as terminal functionalization or copolymerization, to enhance drug loading or compatibility.
CarboMer supplies Poly(ethylene adipate) in a range of molecular weights and viscosities tailored to application-specific needs. Custom grades are available for blending, extrusion, or particle fabrication.
The material is packaged in sealed, low-particulate, moisture-resistant containers. Available in R&D, pilot, and commercial volumes. Minimum order quantities (MOQ), lead times, and documentation—including CoA and SDS—are available upon request.
Each batch is tested for identity (NMR, FTIR), intrinsic viscosity, residual monomers, melting point, degradation profile, and microbial purity. Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and full traceability documentation accompany every shipment.
As with all CarboMer biodegradable polymers, Poly(ethylene adipate) is supported by formulation development services, regulatory guidance, and a reliable global supply chain to accelerate innovation in long-acting pharmaceutical and biomedical products.
