Description

Poly(e-caprolactone)

Poly(ε-caprolactone) is a biodegradable, semi-crystalline polyester used in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and tissue engineering applications for its slow degradation rate, excellent biocompatibility, and versatile processing properties. As an aliphatic polyester derived from ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone, it is widely utilized in long-acting drug delivery systems, scaffolds, and implantable devices.

  • Biodegradable polyester with a low glass transition temperature
  • Used in sustained drug release, absorbable implants, and 3D-printed medical devices
  • Offers controlled degradation kinetics and minimal inflammatory response
  • Compatible with melt extrusion, solvent casting, and electrospinning
  • Manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified conditions
  • Supplied with complete regulatory documentation including Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and technical data

Poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) is characterized by its excellent blend compatibility with other polymers and its capacity to encapsulate a wide range of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Its degradation proceeds via hydrolysis of ester linkages, producing non-toxic caproic acid derivatives.

In pharmaceutical and biomedical applications, poly(ε-caprolactone) is used in:

  • Long-acting injectable or implantable drug delivery systems (e.g., rods, pellets, microparticles)
  • Biodegradable surgical sutures, meshes, and orthopedic fixation devices
  • Tissue engineering scaffolds for cartilage, bone, and nerve regeneration
  • Wound healing matrices and sustained-release topical delivery platforms
  • Combination products requiring controlled release and structural support

Poly(ε-caprolactone) exhibits high permeability to many drugs, excellent thermal stability, and tunable mechanical properties depending on molecular weight and processing method. It is often blended with polymers like polylactide (PLA) or polyglycolide (PGA) to customize degradation profiles.

CarboMer supplies pharmaceutical-grade poly(ε-caprolactone) with precise control over molecular weight distribution, residual monomers, and thermal behavior. Material is available in various forms including powder, pellets, films, or custom-fabricated devices.

Material is packaged in sealed, low-moisture, tamper-evident containers. Available in R&D, pilot, and commercial-scale volumes. Minimum order quantities (MOQ), lead times, and documentation including CoA and SDS are provided upon request.

Each batch is tested for identity (NMR, FTIR), molecular weight (GPC), melting point, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbial limits. Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and full traceability documentation accompany every shipment.

As with all CarboMer biodegradable polymers, poly(ε-caprolactone) is supported by expert regulatory guidance, formulation services, and dependable supply to accelerate the development of safe, long-acting pharmaceutical and biomedical products.
