Description
Poly(carbonate)
Poly(carbonate) is a high-performance, thermoplastic polymer used in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and industrial applications for its combination of mechanical strength, optical clarity, and biocompatibility. As a linear polymer composed of repeating carbonate groups, poly(carbonate) is widely used in drug delivery systems, medical devices, and controlled-release matrices.
- Thermoplastic polymer with excellent strength, flexibility, and transparency
- Used in medical devices, drug delivery carriers, and implantable systems
- Biocompatible and suitable for long-term contact with biological tissues
- Offers good barrier properties, thermal resistance, and dimensional stability
- Manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified conditions
- Supplied with complete regulatory documentation including Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and technical data
Poly(carbonate) is derived from bisphenol monomers and phosgene or other carbonate precursors, forming a rigid backbone with alternating carbonate linkages. It is typically amorphous, clear, and resistant to impact, UV degradation, and moderate heat exposure.
In pharmaceutical and biomedical applications, poly(carbonate) is used in:
- Long-acting and sustained-release drug delivery systems (e.g., implants, microspheres)
- Medical-grade tubing, reservoirs, and structural components
- Diagnostic cartridges, lab-on-chip devices, and sterile packaging
- Ocular implants, craniofacial supports, and orthopedic surgical guides
- Prototypes and custom components via injection molding or 3D printing
Poly(carbonate) demonstrates excellent compatibility with sterilization methods including gamma radiation, ethylene oxide (EtO), and autoclaving. Its processability and consistent performance make it suitable for highly regulated medical and combination product platforms.
CarboMer supplies medical-grade and pharmaceutical-intermediate poly(carbonate) with validated control over molecular weight, residual monomers, extractables/leachables, and mechanical properties. Materials are available in pellets, powders, or fabricated forms upon request.
Material is packaged in sealed, tamper-evident, low-particulate containers suitable for cleanroom environments. Available in R&D, pilot, and commercial-scale volumes. Minimum order quantities (MOQ), lead times, and documentation including CoA and SDS are provided upon request.
Each batch is tested for identity (NMR, FTIR), intrinsic viscosity, thermal properties (DSC, TGA), mechanical strength, residual solvents, and bioburden. All shipments are supported by Certificates of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and full traceability documentation.
As with all CarboMer polymers for health and medical applications, poly(carbonate) is supported by formulation expertise, regulatory guidance, and secure global logistics to ensure safe and effective integration into advanced life science products.
