Description
Chitosan Sulphate
Chitosan Sulphate is a chemically modified derivative of Chitosan in which sulphate groups are introduced onto the polymer backbone, resulting in enhanced water solubility and anionic character. It is used in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and research applications where improved biological interaction, solubility, and functional versatility are required.
Chitosan Sulphate appears as a white to off-white amorphous powder that is readily soluble in water, forming clear to slightly opalescent solutions. The sulphate functional groups significantly alter the charge properties of Chitosan, enabling interaction with a broader range of biological molecules and systems compared to native Chitosan.
In pharmaceutical and research applications, Chitosan Sulphate is used in:
• Drug delivery systems and controlled-release formulations
• Interaction and binding studies with proteins and growth factors
• Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine research
• Antiviral and antimicrobial research applications
• Surface modification of biomaterials
• Studies involving polysaccharide structure–function relationships
Chitosan Sulphate functions by combining the polymeric backbone of Chitosan with negatively charged sulphate groups, enabling electrostatic interaction with positively charged biomolecules while maintaining biocompatibility and biodegradability. This dual functionality supports its use in advanced biomedical and pharmaceutical research systems.
CarboMer supplies Chitosan Sulphate with defined degree of sulphation, consistent molecular characteristics, and high purity suitable for regulated research and advanced formulation development.
The material is packaged in sealed, moisture-resistant, tamper-evident containers to preserve stability and handling quality. Available in laboratory and pilot-scale quantities. Documentation includes Certificate of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and full traceability.
Each batch is tested for identity, degree of sulphation, molecular weight distribution, moisture content, and purity profile where applicable. Technical support is available to assist with formulation design, biological interaction studies, and application development.
As with all CarboMer supplied Chitosan-derived materials, Chitosan Sulphate is supported by dependable global supply, rigorous quality systems, and expert technical guidance to ensure consistent and reliable performance across pharmaceutical and research applications.
