Description
Calcium Polycarbophil USP/NF
Calcium Polycarbophil USP/NF is a high-purity crosslinked polyacrylic acid calcium salt used in pharmaceutical formulations as a bulk-forming laxative and controlled-release matrix component. Compliant with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and National Formulary (NF) standards, it provides excellent water-binding capacity, swelling behavior, and mucoadhesive properties, making it suitable for gastrointestinal, ophthalmic, and modified-release dosage forms.
Calcium Polycarbophil is chemically designated as the calcium salt of crosslinked Polyacrylic Acid. It appears as a white, granular or powdery material that swells dramatically in aqueous environments, forming a highly viscous gel that supports controlled hydration and gradual active ingredient release.
In pharmaceutical applications, Calcium Polycarbophil USP/NF is used in:
• Bulk-forming laxatives for constipation relief
• Gastroretentive and controlled-release oral dosage forms
• Bioadhesive and mucoadhesive systems for enhanced gastrointestinal retention
• Ophthalmic gels and viscous solutions
• Veterinary formulations requiring controlled hydration and swelling
• Research involving hydrogel dynamics and polymer-controlled drug delivery
Calcium Polycarbophil functions by absorbing and retaining large amounts of water within the gastrointestinal tract, increasing stool bulk and promoting regularity. Its swelling and mucoadhesive properties also support extended gastric residence and modified-release performance in oral drug delivery systems.
CarboMer supplies Calcium Polycarbophil USP/NF with control over crosslinking density, calcium content, swelling index, particle size, and microbial purity. The material meets both USP and NF monograph specifications and is suitable for regulated pharmaceutical applications.
The material is packaged in sealed, moisture-resistant, tamper-evident containers. Available in laboratory, pilot, and commercial-scale quantities. Documentation includes Certificate of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and full traceability.
Each batch is tested for identity (IR), calcium content, swelling index, loss on drying, particle size, and microbial limits. CarboMer provides formulation and regulatory support to ensure consistent and effective performance in finished products.
As with all CarboMer polymer excipients, Calcium Polycarbophil USP/NF is backed by reliable global supply, stringent quality control, and expert technical guidance to support safe and compliant product development.
