Ingredient in Turmeric Found to Speed Brain Repair

turmeric-ingredients-curcumin-supplierNew study shows the active ingredients in the popular Asian spice, Turmeric, has been found to speed brain repair.

Researchers from the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine in Julich, Germany announced that based on a recent study one of the major ingredients in turmeric, aromatic-tumerone, appears to encourage the growth of nerve cells in the brain resulting in expedited self-repair of the brain.

The researchers performed the study on lab rats. They injected the subjects with the compound, aromatic-tumerone, and then observed the rats brain activity by way of brain scans. They concluded that by injecting the rats with the natural compound, the places in the brain where nerve cell growth and repair is known to occur, showed high activity. This led the researchers to conclude that the ingredients in turmeric led to the brain to encourage “proliferation of brain cells”.

There are two major compounds in turmeric that may have powerful effects on the human body; Curcumin and Aromatic-turmerone.

Aromatic-turmerone is the lesser-studied of two and scientists say that further research is necessary on humans to know the exact benefits for the brain, but they all agree the potential is exciting. This is great news for research in Alzheimer’s studies as well.

Curcumin, has been studied extensively and has been hailed for its potential in reducing inflammation in the body as well as it having anti-cancer benefits.
